The White House issued a statement saying that US President Trump announced an increase in tariffs on imported steel, aluminum, and their derivatives from 25% to 50%. The tariffs will take effect at 12:01 AM Eastern Time on June 4, 2025.
The statement stated that US tariffs on steel and aluminum imported from the UK will remain at 25%. Starting July 9, 2025, the US may adjust applicable tariff rates and establish import quotas for steel and aluminum in accordance with the terms of the Environmental Policy Statement. If the UK is found to be in noncompliance with the provisions of the Environmental Policy Statement, the applicable tariff rate may be increased to 50%.
On May 30, local time, US President Trump announced at a rally in Pennsylvania that he would increase tariffs on imported steel from 25% to 50%. Trump later announced on social media that the decision would take effect on June 4.
