Hong Kong’s political and business circles discuss development opportunities for new productivity

The Hong Kong Democratic Alliance for the Betterment of Hong Kong held a forum on “Leveraging Hong Kong’s Advantages to Promote the Development of New Productivity” on the 23rd. More than 100 political and business figures, both online and offline, discussed how to make good use of Hong Kong’s unique advantages, seize the country’s opportunities to develop new productivity, and let Hong Kong Better integrate into the overall development of the country.

A video of the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Mr Lee Ka-chiu, attended the forum. He said that the Third Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China emphasized the need to improve systems and mechanisms to promote high-quality economic development, and proposed to improve systems and mechanisms to develop new quality productivity in accordance with local conditions. The SAR government will take technological innovation as its leading role, support Hong Kong’s new real economy, explore more new directions, seize more new opportunities, inject new momentum into the high-quality development of Hong Kong’s economy, and achieve industrial diversification.

According to reports, the SAR government will launch a HK$10 billion “New Industry Acceleration Program” within this year to provide matching subsidies to companies engaged in strategic industries, encourage them to build intelligent production facilities in Hong Kong, strengthen upstream research and development and implement technology-based big data and Artificial intelligence and other technologies promote the development of new productive forces.

Li Huiqiong, a member of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, said in her speech that Hong Kong needs to develop new productivity based on local conditions, lead the optimization and upgrading of traditional industries with the improvement of national standards, and support enterprises to use digital technology and green technology to transform and upgrade traditional industries. She hopes that all sectors of society can seize the opportunities of new productive forces, unite and give full play to Hong Kong’s advantages, and assist the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

Sun Dong, Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry of the Hong Kong SAR Government, mentioned at the forum the advantages and challenges of developing new productive forces in Hong Kong. He believes that Hong Kong should further expand its own strengths, including aligning with the country’s development direction and fully developing Hong Kong’s two-way channel of “going global and importing”.
