Hong Kong plays a platform hub role in the high-quality joint construction of the “Belt and Road”

At the 9th “Belt and Road” Summit held in Hong Kong from the 11th to the 12th, political and business people attending the summit said that Hong Kong is both a “super connector” and a “super value-added person” and should expand and magnify its unique advantages to add color to the high-quality joint construction of the “Belt and Road”.

The two-day summit forum was themed “Building a Connected, Innovative and Green New Silk Road” and was co-organized by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council. It attracted nearly 6,000 people from more than 70 countries and regions to attend the meeting.

The guests at the meeting believed that Hong Kong is an active participant, contributor and beneficiary of the joint construction of the “Belt and Road”. It should seize major opportunities, give full play to Hong Kong’s hub function and professional service advantages as an international metropolis, and provide financial, knowledge and program support for international cooperation and sustainable development.

Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government Financial Secretary Paul Chan Mo-po attended the luncheon of the summit forum on the 11th and said in his speech that Hong Kong is an outstanding financing center in Asia with a complete stock, bond and currency market that can meet the different needs of borrowers and investors around the world. At the same time, Hong Kong also provides first-class professional services, covering legal, financial, consulting, dispute resolution and risk management.

Chan Mo-po said that Hong Kong welcomes enterprises from countries and regions that jointly build the “Belt and Road” to list in Hong Kong and raise capital from mainland China and international markets. As Asia’s leading green financial center and a rapidly developing international green technology center, the financial and technological solutions provided by Hong Kong can help economies embrace green transformation and achieve net zero goals.

Dilma Rousseff, President of the New Development Bank, said that Hong Kong has always been an important gateway connecting mainland China with the world. As an international financial center, Hong Kong connects developing and developed economies and can help build investment and financing for countries and regions along the “Belt and Road”. The New Development Bank looks forward to strengthening connectivity with Hong Kong.

Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government Secretary for Justice Lam Ting-kwok said in a speech at the special group forum that Hong Kong is an ideal place to provide one-stop high-level international legal and dispute resolution services. Hong Kong’s strict requirements for environmental, social and governance standards, comprehensive intellectual property laws, and reliable dispute resolution services provide legal protection for the implementation of “Belt and Road” projects.

He then added on social media that Hong Kong can also provide high-quality arbitration services to resolve disputes involving intellectual property rights.

It is reported that this forum has set up a new “Green Chapter” and arranged a series of special group forums to explore how to promote green development based on the Hong Kong platform. In the exhibition area outside the venue, the booth of the Building Environmental Assessment Association Limited, headquartered in Hong Kong, attracted many investors to stop and consult.

Association Chairman Su Honghui and General Manager Ho Chi-shing told reporters that the association is proud to participate in the joint construction of the “Belt and Road” and promote Hong Kong’s experience and assessment standards in the construction of high-density high-rise green and environmentally friendly buildings to properties and investment projects in other countries and regions, helping corporate financing and green finance development.

Mohammed Kuhki, the second vice chairman of the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce, told reporters that Hong Kong is a gateway connecting mainland China with the world, and looks forward to deepening partnerships with Hong Kong in the fields of finance, medical care, tourism and education, and using Hong Kong to expand cooperation with mainland China.
